Mulled Red Wine

Mulled Red Wine

Mulled Red Wine will add a festive touch to your holiday gatherings and winter entertaining. This warm drink is made with red wine that has been slightly sweetened with honey, simmered in cinnamon and cloves, then topped off with Grand Marnier and orange zest.

While you should use a red wine that you would actually enjoy drinking, you do not need to buy an expensive bottle of wine.  With the other ingredients we are adding, the taste will be changed.

Mulled Red Wine is simple and only takes a few minutes to put together. It only needs to simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the wine with the spices. This is a wonderful drink that will warm you right up and might just become a new holiday tradition.

Serves: 2-3 Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • ¼ cup Grand Marnier
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 4 strips orange zest, cut ½ wine
  • Orange slices and cinnamon sticks for serving.

Instructions

If you have a piece of cheesecloth, you should place the cinnamon sticks and cloves in it and tie it. This will keep anything from making it into to the mugs. If you do not have cheesecloth, make sure to pour the wine through a strainer so they do not end up in the wine.

Pour the wine into a medium saucepan. Add the Grand Marnier, honey, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange zest.

Simmer for 10 minutes.

Pour into mugs and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
