Goulash

Goulash

Goulash is one of the ultimate comfort foods. It is hearty, delicious and warming on a cold winter day. It is a basic recipe with ground beef, vegetables and cheese in a flavorful tomato sauce. There are many ways to prepare it, and this version is made with Italian style tomatoes, seasonings and cheeses.

This is an easy one pot meal that cooks in just about 20 minutes. It is perfect for a weeknight dinner and a great addition to your winter meal line up.

Ingredients are everything. If you start with the best quality tomatoes they can take a simple recipe and make it amazing.

My favorite brand of tomatoes is Tuttorosso because of their top-notch quality. I can always see and taste the difference they make in my recipes. These tomatoes are not overly processed which makes them a healthier option in my book. I should also mention that they are simply steamed and that adds a nice texture to the sauce.

To make the most full-flavored sauce for my Goulash I used Tuttorosso Italian Inspirations Crushed Tomatoes Chunky Style in Puree with Sweet Basil. They are perfectly seasoned to help amplify its deliciousness. They were a wonderful base for this recipe.

This post today is being sponsored by Tuttorosso Tomatoes and Feedfeed. All words are my own.

  • 2 garlic cloves, diced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • (28 ounce can) Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes Chunky Style in Puree with Sweet Basil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 ½ cups elbow macaroni
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

STEP 1

Heat olive oil in a large stock pot over medium-low heat. Add green bell pepper and onion and cook until starting to soften, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for about 1 minute.

STEP 2

Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes. Use  a wooden spoon to break up any large pieces. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

STEP 3

Add Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes Chunky Style in Puree with Sweet Basil, beef broth, oregano, crushed red pepper, bay leaf, and elbow macaroni and stir to combine. Increase heat to high and bring mixture to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low until pasta is al dente, about 10-12 minutes.

STEP 4

Add mozzarella, parmesan, and parsley and stir until cheese is melted. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

STEP 5

Discard bay leaves and serve immediately.
